Biography

"Most things in life are moments of pleasure and a lifetime of embarrassment; photography is a moment of embarrassment and a lifetime of pleasure."

~ Tony Benn
A witty introduction escapes me, but this quote is one of my favorites. I have come to the realization that in order to truly get a unique perspective through the lens; you physically need to HAVE a unique perspective. Scaling a wall, wading through water, lying down on the ground, hanging upside down from a set of monkey bars… these things may make you look ridiculous for a moment, but the rewards are always worth it.

My name is Candice Gordon and I was introduced to photography when I was very young. My father was always the one behind the lens as I was growing up and as such, my siblings and I have many wonderful memories to look back on. I lost him to a tragic accident when I was only 12 years old, but his passion for living in the moment but recording it for a lifetime, lives on in me. My husband rolls his eyes at me sometimes as he thinks I spend too much time trying to get that ‘perfect shot’ and don’t spend enough time just enjoying the moment. I suppose only fellow photographers can understand… I experience these things through the lens and they mean that much more to me because not only have I been fortunate enough to experience it, but because the moment has been captured, I'm able to share that experience with others.

Many photographers will specify a particular area of interest such as portrait photography, weddings, or wildlife. I will have to stay firmly in the undecided corner as I love all areas of photography… a different passion on a different day, depending on my mood and what’s in front of me at the time. Some days I love nothing more than to wander through the woods (or relax in my own backyard) just observing nature. Fur or fowl - even insect life - draws me in to capture on camera that which has no interest in ‘posing.’

On cold, wet days, you’ll find me indoors with a light-box and whatever object(s) happen to be handy. Anything from everyday household objects to my ever-patient children. I always get a chuckle as I try to think ‘outside the box’ while shooting within the confines of one.

I also love to travel (many destinations are planned with photography at the forefront of my mind.) Whether it’s just around my neighborhood or around the globe, the discovery and capture of unique buildings, landscapes, objects, and people is always a welcome challenge and can create new experiences in familiar places.

Beauty truly is 'in the eye of the beholder,' but beauty comes in many forms. Sometimes it’s right there in front of you, if only you chose to take the time to really see it. Photography allows me to share my thoughts and emotions about a particular subject and each image I produce really is a part of me that I am fortunate enough to be able to share with others. Each person has their own unique perspective on how they view the world and I hope you enjoy mine.
